Akasia Place (THH’s Pilot Project)

The proposed Akasia Place Social Housing development is a Greenfield development within a Restructuring Zone in City of Tshwane: Akasia (Government Gazette, 2 Dec 2001).

The development consists of 400 residential units, of which 120 units are bachelor units (30,64m²) aimed at the primary market, and 280 units are two-bedroom units (42,10m²) aimed at the secondary market. The units are accommodated in two and three storey walk-up buildings.

The units are laid out on the site in such a way that there is sufficient green space and children’s play areas and parking for the residents. Play equipment (jungle gym), braai area and security system is supplied. The site is secured by a boundary wall and gated access.

The development is environmentally sustainable and includes the following: 

  • Pre-paid meter systems to save electricity
  • Electrically operated sliding gates for increased security
  • Solar geyser systems to reduce electricity consumption
  • Light fittings & day-night switching gear to save electricity

Completion Date (Phase 1) – November 2017

Phase 2

Location : Akasia, Pretoria-North
Land Size : 2,2638 ha
Project Size : 150 units

Construction is to commence in January 2018.
